New research, conducted by YouGov*, has revealed that British women spend more time mowing their lawn than their male counterparts.
The research, commissioned by the UK’s leading lawnmower brand, Flymo revealed that over one in three (36%) of the British female population are spending in excess of an hour a week during the spring and summer months, mowing their grass compared to 30% of men.
Almost half (43%) of the men surveyed revealed that they spend less than one hour a week mowing the lawn, with 24% stating that they would rather be spending more time with their family.
Women, on the other hand, are clearly more green fingered with almost half of those surveyed (43%) revealing that if they didn’t have to mow the lawn they would spend more time on other parts of the garden.
The research, however did reveal that men and women have a similar sentiment towards mowing the lawn. Almost half of the women surveyed (46%) said that they find mowing the lawn a chore and would rather have someone/something else take care of it for them, and 45% of men felt the same.
The research was undertaken by Flymo following the launch of its first ever robotic lawnmower ad campaign. This year, the brand has invested over £850k in a campaign focusing on its Robotic Lawnmower 1200 R, which allows homeowners to spend their time on other things whilst it maintains their lawn, cutting evenly and working unassisted.
Flymo commissioned the research to learn more about how Brits feel about spending time traditionally mowing the lawn in the year 2016 – where we’re used to advancements in smartphone technology and fibre optic internet speeds.

The Flymo 1200 R is a battery powered device capable of effectively mowing a lawn area of up to a maximum of 400 m² and the device can negotiate itself round trees and fences. Once the boundaries of a lawn are set with a perimeter wire system, the 1200 R can be left to wander off on its own.
