YouGov research reveals over one in five Scots never mow the lawn

New research, conducted by YouGov*, has revealed that mowing the lawn really is a chore after over one in five people in Scotland admitted that they stay well clear of the lawnmower.

The research, commissioned by the UK’s leading lawnmower brand, Flymo revealed that 21% of Scots, who have a lawn, confessed to never mowing it or leaving it up to someone else to do it for them.

The time it takes (32%), disposing of the grass cuttings (25%) and the lawnmower being hard to control (14%) are amongst the biggest bugbears for those Scots, with almost a third (29%) revealing they would rather spend more time with their family.

Though it seems Scots aren’t completely averse to gardening in general. The research also revealed that over a third (37%), who do mow, admitted that if they didn’t have to mow the lawn they would spend more time on other parts of the garden.

The research was undertaken by Flymo following the launch of its first ever robotic lawnmower ad campaign. This year, the brand has invested over £850k in a campaign focusing on its Robotic Lawnmower 1200 R, which allows homeowners to spend their time on other things whilst it maintains their lawn, cutting evenly and working unassisted.

Flymo commissioned the research to learn more about how Brits feel about spending time traditionally mowing the lawn in the year 2016 – where we’re used to advancements in smartphone technology and fibre optic internet speeds.

Anne Smith, Flymo’s Trade Marketing Manager explained “We’re aware that robotic mowing awareness in the UK is low in comparison to many countries in Europe, however we feel it will change over the next few years. The Flymo Robotic Lawnmower 1200 R makes robotic mowing affordable for more homeowners.
The product works unassisted, freeing up their time so they can do other things without compromising on a well-kept lawn.
“The 1200 R means even those who love being out in the garden, will have more time to focus on different areas of their gardens and not just on maintaining their lawn.”

The Flymo 1200 R is a battery powered device capable of effectively mowing a lawn area of up to a maximum of 400 m² and the device can negotiate itself round trees and fences. Once the boundaries of a lawn are set with a perimeter wire system, the 1200 R can be left to wander off on its own.
The mower emits no fumes, and makes little noise leaving both the neighbours and grass happy.
