Flymo goes a long way back...

Since inventing the hover mower more than 40 years ago Flymo have become market leaders in the design and innovation of unique gardening products that make gardening easy. To the right you can read about our history.

1959

Christopher Cockerell's Hovercraft invention has its final trial run.

1964

Karl Dahlman's hover mower wins gold medal at the Brussels Inventors Fair.

1965

Production of the world's first hover mower starts at Newton Aycliffe. Flymo Founded.

1969

Flymo becomes part of Electrolux and launch world's first electric hover mower.

1977

Flymo goes "Orange".

1978

Flymo introduce and patent the world's first grass collecting hover mower.

1982

Queen's Award for Export.

1983

Queen's Award for Technology.

1988

Flymo Multi Trim, the first two-in-one trimmer and lawn edger on the market is launched.

1989

Flymo move to purpose built factory and become the UK's leading lawnmover brand.

1993

Flymo launch GardenVac, a unique multi-purpose garden tidy tool.

1994

Flymo launch and TV advertise the Unique Turbo Compact.

2000

Flymo sell 1 million products in the UK market.
